Frequently asked questions about the Outdoor Learning Program:
Q: What if I am sick and can't attend the course? Will I be liable to pay the $1350?
A: If you are sick and have finished the online portion of the course, you will not be considered choosing to withdraw from the program and will not be liable to pay.
Q: Will my deposit be returned if I am not accepted into the program?
A: You will not be required to pay a deposit until accepted into the program. Once you have paid the deposit, you will be liable to pay the full cost of the course if you CHOOSE to withdraw from the course.
Q: How many credits will I earn?
A: Three
Q: How do I know if my student's program is teacher-directed?
A: If registered for the Online or Print Based Resource Program, you are in a teacher-directed program. If you need clarification, don't hesitate to get in touch with the office to see what program you have registered for.
Q: If my student is in a blended program, can I join for $100, or must I pay the full tuition fee?
A: You may use the OLC program as your teacher-directed option course as long as you stay within the parameters of your blended portion.
Q: My student is parent-directed. How do I sign up, and what do I need to pay?
A: You may use the student's $850 from their funding towards the course. (You need to ensure that the course is reflected in your education plan and that you can cover the needed resources for the rest of the student's program.) Home Ed students can attend one non-specialized teacher-directed course in a school year. You can use $390 from that towards this specialized course. That gives you $1240 of funding for one of the courses. The total price for the Outdoor Learning Centre Specialty Online Courses is $1350 plus the non-refundable deposit of $100 for $1450. You would be responsible for paying $210. If you still have funding left for this year, you may use $100 of it towards the non-refundable deposit. You may email activityday@nsaschool.ca to clarify this.
Q: Can my junior high students take these courses?
A: No, these are only for students registered in grades 10-12.
Q: Do I need to send a parent chaperone?
A: NorthStar Academy will provide chaperones for the specialty online courses.
Q: Can I register for one of these courses if NorthStar Academy is not my student's primary school?
A: Unfortunately, if NSA is not your primary school, you cannot register for these programs.
Q: What if vaccines become mandatory and I can't attend the course? Will I be liable to pay the $1350?
A: We can not predict what will happen in the future, but if something like this happens and you have finished the online portion of the course, you will not be considered choosing to withdraw from the program and will not be liable to pay.
Q: What if I have a question not listed here?
