Spanish 10

Description:

5 Credits

This course is a beginning course in Spanish.  We will be looking at Mexican Spanish and not European Spanish.  They are similar but there are some distinct differences that we will look at later. If you speak Mexican Spanish you will be understood in Spain. You do not need any previous Spanish to take the course.

We will be covering the following material:

  1. Pronunciation of consonants and vowels in Spanish.
  2. Basic Spanish grammar.
  3. Common greetings and conversation starters.
  4. Vocabulary in Spanish.
  5. Present tense verbs and their usage (regular and irregular).
  6. Basic sentence structure in Spanish.
  7. Conversation starters.

It is my hope that when you have completed this course you will be able to get by in Spanish at a beginning level.  The most difficult part is pronunciation, but we will work on that too.

For this course you will need a computer since a lot of the material is on line and you will need a workbook called “Practice Makes Perfect - Basic Spanish” by Dorothy Richmond and published by McGraw Hill.  There will be 18 lessons and you should be ready to spend 5 hours a week on the course.  I will also call you throughout the year so that I can listen to your pronunciation.  Of course, you can always email me with questions and you can ask me to call you if you want to practice your pronunciation.

The  main goal of this course is to give you the beginning ability to converse and get by with Spanish if you need to.  We will not concentrate on grammar, but the emphasis will be on putting together sentences and speaking.

What student have said about Spanish 20

Yes, I did like this course! I always felt like it was fun and that you were a very positive teacher! Thanks again, and I hope you have a great summer! God Bless!

I have always been interested in learning languages, so I just absolutely loved this course.

I definitely learned what I had hoped for. I learned so much this year. I work at a restaurant as a su-chef and the head chef that I work with speaks Spanish so it’s nice to be able to converse with him (in Spanish) and not struggle too badly.

I can’t say enough good things about it. I just loved this course; it was for sure my favorite course that I took this semester
